Why is it crucial to know our rights in Christ? It is because understanding these rights allows us to live in the fullness of God’s call on our lives.
It’s like inheriting a magnificent mansion with a secret room filled with powerful weapons. Imagine hearing an intruder trying to break in and foolishly hiding in your closet when you have access to a room full of arsenals.
Similarly, living without knowing of our rights in Christ is like missing out on the abundant provisions and protection God has made available to us.
God’s Word says that ‘my people perish because of lack of knowledge’ (Hosea 4:6). Therefore, having knowledge of our rights in Christ is crucial for an abundant life.
Possessing these rights requires us to be saved or to seek salvation. As Romans 10:8-9 states, we must believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord to receive the gift of salvation. For a detailed post on Salvation, click on the link below. It explains the concept of Salvation and provides guidance on how to be Saved.”
Upon being saved, we become children of God, and it is through this adoption that we gain access to these rights. Just as in the natural realm, children receive an inheritance from their parents simply by virtue of being their offspring.
Understanding these rights empowers believers to walk confidently in their faith and live a life of freedom, purpose, and grace.
Know your God-given rights in Christ
–The Right to Sonship
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.””
Romans 8:14-15 NLT
When we embrace Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit takes residence within us, and as this verse proclaims, we are adopted as God’s own children. It is truly awe-inspiring to realize that we have the incredible privilege and blessing of being called children of God!
–The Right to wisdom
“No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 2:11-12, 16 NLT
–The Right to Grace and Mercy
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
Christianity teaches that God’s grace and mercy are abundant and freely available. No matter our past mistakes or failures, God offers unending grace to those who seek His forgiveness. This understanding liberates believers from the burden of guilt and shame, allowing them to embrace a life of hope and renewal.
–The Right to God’s Love
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
In Christ, believers have the right to experience and dwell in God’s boundless love. This love is unconditional, unchanging, and all-encompassing. Understanding this truth enables individuals to find security and purpose, knowing that they are deeply cherished and valued by their Creator.
–The Right to the Holy Spirit
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a powerful gift given to every Christian. This divine presence offers guidance, comfort, and empowerment. By relying on the Holy Spirit, believers can face challenges with confidence, knowing that they are not alone in their journey of faith.
–The Right to Freedom from Bondage
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
“I am a special messenger from Christ Jesus to you Gentiles. I bring you the Good News so that I might present you as an acceptable offering to God, made holy by the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:16
Christians have the right to break free from the chains of sin and addiction. Through Christ’s sacrifice, believers can overcome the stronghold of sin in their lives and experience true liberation. This freedom allows them to live in alignment with God’s will and purpose for their lives.
–The Right to Prayer and Intimacy with God
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
Prayer is a direct line of communication between believers and God. Christians have the right to approach the throne of grace boldly, knowing that their prayers are heard and valued by their Heavenly Father. This privilege fosters intimacy with God and strengthens the believer’s relationship with Him.
–The Right to Divine Protection
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
In Christ, believers have the right to seek and trust in God’s protection. This assurance allows them to face life’s uncertainties with courage, knowing that God is their shield and refuge in times of trouble.
1The Right to Eternal Life
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
One of the most profound rights in Christ is the promise of eternal life. Believers have the assurance that their earthly journey is not the end, but rather the beginning of an eternity spent in God’s presence. This hope brings comfort and peace in the face of life’s transience.
–The Right to Physical Healing
In addition to spiritual blessings, Christians have the right to believe in the healing power of Christ. Throughout the New Testament, we see Jesus performing countless miracles of physical healing, restoring sight to the blind, enabling the lame to walk, and curing various illnesses. As believers, we have the privilege to approach God in faith, trusting that He is the Great Physician who can bring healing and restoration to our bodies.
The Bible encourages us to pray for healing and to lay hands on the sick. James 5:14-15 says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” This passage emphasizes the importance of combining prayer, faith, and the support of the church community when seeking physical healing.
However, it’s essential to recognize that physical healing does not always occur in the way we expect or desire. While God has the power to heal, His ways are higher than our ways, and His plan for our lives may involve different paths. Sometimes, healing comes in the form of medical treatment, the wisdom of healthcare professionals, or the strength to endure and find peace amidst illness.
Nevertheless, knowing our right to physical healing in Christ provides us with hope and comfort during times of sickness. It reminds us that we serve a loving God who cares deeply for our well-being. It also encourages us to seek His guidance and healing touch in all aspects of our lives, recognizing that He has our best interests at heart.
–The Right to hope for a good future
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT
–The Right to Justice
“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”
Romans 12:19-21 NLT
–The Right to Peace (despite the circumstance)
Psalm 29:11 (NIV) – “The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.”
Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) – “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.”
Most times, we have concerns and worries surrounding us and how amazing is it to know that we can give it to God and experience His peace.
–The Right to Joy (despite the circumstances)
Psalm 16:11 (NIV) – “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Romans 15:13 (NIV) – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Knowing our rights in Christ is not about entitlement or selfish gain. Instead, it’s about understanding the incredible blessings and provisions that God has bestowed upon us as His children. From the gift of salvation and the assurance of God’s love to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and the hope of eternal life, these rights enable us to live purposefully and confidently.
As Christians, we are called to embrace and share these truths with others, living as beacons of hope and agents of positive change in the world. Through our faith in Christ and the knowledge of our rights in Him, we can overcome challenges, grow in our relationship with God, and impact those around us with the transformative power of the Gospel. Let us, therefore, stand firm in our faith, continually seeking to know and live out our rights in Christ, for in doing so, we become a living testimony of God’s grace and love.
