Are you wondering how to keep your children engaged and learning during the summer break? Look no further! Here is a list of exciting and enriching educational activities that are perfect for 7-year-olds and 5-year-olds. These activities will not only keep your kids entertained but also help them grow academically, creatively, and socially.
I initiate their educational activities by playing the Parent Cue program on YouTube, which is a Sunday school program focusing on teaching the Bible. This program lasts for less than 10 minutes and includes elements such as worship, a Bible story, and a message.
Educational Activities for 7-Year-Olds:
I aim to incorporate reading, writing, and math to provide a well-rounded learning experience.
- Bible Reading: Foster a love for reading and spirituality by encouraging your child to explore age-appropriate passages from the Bible. Help them understand the stories, characters, and moral values presented in the text. Engage in discussions about faith and personal beliefs, creating a deeper connection with their spiritual journey.
- Brain Quest workbook: Encourage your child to read and choose one activity from the book to complete. The activities can include writing a summary or review, creating a poster or artwork inspired by the story. There are different sections to choose from.
This is an example of what she did today👇🏽
- Coloring and Art Projects: Besides traditional coloring books, introduce your child to various art projects and crafts. Provide them with art supplies such as paints, colored pencils, markers, and paper. Encourage them to explore their creativity by creating their own illustrations or designing imaginative scenes related to their favorite stories or topics. Below is a sample of what my 7 year old did today.she decided to color to a page from her summer break book provided by Sunday school
- Kumon Math: In the Kumon program, students are given worksheets to complete on a daily basis. Students start at a level that matches their abilities and progress at their own pace through a series of worksheets. The worksheets are designed to gradually increase in difficulty, allowing students to build a solid foundation and develop strong skills.
Educational Activities for 5-Year-Olds:
I aim to incorporate reading, writing and math to provide a well rounded learning experience.
- Jolly Phonics: Help your child revise the alphabet using the Jolly Phonics approach. Introduce one phoneme per day, practice reading words with that phoneme.
This is an example of what my son did today👆🏼. I would rather limit his educational activities to just 30 minutes..
- Kumon Math: The repetitive nature of the Kumon program in the early formative years can be highly beneficial for children. While some may perceive this approach as monotonous, I have personally observed that it greatly enhances my children’s confidence in mathematics.
- Daily Sentence Writing or Bob Series Books: Enhance your child’s language skills by encouraging them to write one sentence a day about their experiences or observations. This activity promotes sentence structure, vocabulary expansion, and creative thinking. Alternatively, explore popular Bob Series books that focus on early reading skills and comprehension. To maintain the 30-minute limit on his educational time, I prefer to alternate between writing a sentence and reading a book from the Bob series.
Remember, summer break is an ideal time to engage your children in educational activities that blend learning with fun. These activities not only reinforce their academic skills but also stimulate their imagination, curiosity, and social interaction. Make the most of this time to create lasting memories while fostering a love for learning in your children.
By incorporating these educational activities into your children’s summer break, you are providing them with a holistic learning experience that combines intellectual growth, creativity, and social development. So, go ahead and embark on this educational journey with your kids, and watch them thrive during the summer break!
