Essential kitchen tools & gadgets for a minimalist
- Cookware Set
A sauce pan, A 5 litre Casserole with lid, Two Skillets ( 12.5 inch, 9 inch)
The large skillet is useful for making fried rice. No need for a separate wok! The large skillet can also be used to fry up a few eggs/ pancakes.
2) Stainless steel Mixing bowls
1 large and 2 medium sized mixing bowl
Reserve the large mixing bowl for marinating meats and the medium sized for batters, icing, salads etc.
3) Steel Colander
Use steel over plastic as it can be used not only for rinsing vegetables but also for draining hot pasta/noodles/rice. (Sorry uncle Roger!)
4) Cutting board
Use two Cutting boards. One for meats and the other for vegetables and fruits. Use a green-colored cutting board for the vegetables to avoid mixing the two. Plastic ones are preferred over wooden ones as they are easier to sanitize after cutting meats.
5) Dinnerware set
This includes dinner plates, smaller dessert plates and bowls.
6) Cups and Glasses
Cups for the hot beverages and glasses for other drinks.
7) Knives
You can either buy the knife block set or just the essential ones.
Since my kitchen is small, I prefer to keep my counter tops free from extra things to make it easier to clean and to have more vacant surface area. Four knives (one big one for meats and three for other purposes) are enough. Serrated ones are not necessary if you don’t cut bread.
6) Casserole Dish
One big glass dish for baking Lasagna, shepherd’s pie, enchiladas etc. They are easy to put together for when you are expecting guests or for a pot luck.
4) Round baking tins
You could just get one and bake it twice for the 2 layered cakes. Or just get 2 same size round tins. I prefer getting the 8 inch ones.
5) Baking tray
Perfect for baking nuggets, burgers or chicken.
6) Cutlery
Spoons (table spoons tea spoons), fork, knives
7) Cooking tools
You can get those sets that includes spatulas, whisk, tongs, ladle, wooden spoon etc.
8) Meausring cup and Measuring spoons
A glass measuring cup is useful to not only measure but to warm it in the microwave. For example warm milk for beschamel sauce or melted butter.
9) Can opener
10) Grater and Potato peeler
11)Tupperware for storage
12) Drying rack
13) Mittens
14) Kettle
15) Blender
16) Toaster
Minimalist Extras
1) Pressure Cooker
2) Salad Spinner
This is handy to wash leafy greens and fruits and keep it dry. Who wants a soggy salad right?!
3) Splatter Screen
4) Microwave Splatter cover
With this minimalist list, you’ll have everything you need to prepare delicious meals without cluttering your kitchen with unnecessary items. Happy cooking!
