Kerala beef fry or Roast is characterized by its bold and aromatic flavors, with a perfect balance of spices, coconut, tanginess, and heat. It’s a dish that reflects the rich culinary heritage of Kerala and is enjoyed by many both within the region and beyond.
Jump to RecipeYou have the option to cook it until you’re content with the liquid level, or continue cooking until the gravy reduces for a crispier taste.
I picked up this recipe from my mother-in-law, known for her amazing beef fry. Despite being hesitant to learn due to the time-consuming prep of peeling and cutting beef, onions, ginger, and garlic, I’ve found a shortcut.
Hacks for a faster and more flavorful beef dish:
- Opt for pre-cut beef strips and further cut the strips into smaller pieces to save time on chopping. Alternatively, buy stew-cut pieces and dice them into smaller portions.
- While fresh ginger and garlic paste enhance the flavor, store-bought versions work just as well and yield consistently delicious results.
- Swap the stovetop method for a slow cooker to simplify the cooking process.
