1.Minimalist purchases exclude multiple makeup and skincare products. I possess various makeup items like lipsticks, eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette, foundation, and concealer. I don’t feel compelled to purchase a product just because a makeup artist or influencer claims it’s life changing”. Instead of buying new items, I maximize the use of the ones I already have, mixing lipstick shades if necessary. Maintaining consistency is crucial in skincare, which is why I use all the skincare products I have until they are completely finished , as long as they don’t cause any adverse reactions
2. Fancy kitchen gadgets are unnecessary for me as a minimalist. Given the limited space in my small kitchen, it is crucial that I avoid overcrowding the valuable real estate on my countertop. Apart from essential appliances like a blender, toaster, and kettle, I have no plans to purchase any other fancy kitchen gadgets. I do not own an air fryer, as I prefer to utilize my oven for similar purposes. Additionally, I have opted not to invest in a rice cooker, slow cooker, crock pot, or chopper. While these gadgets offer convenience, they often involve multiple pieces that require cleaning. I find that a trusty knife and cutting board can handle all my needs, and there is something therapeutic about the process of cutting ingredients. Despite not having these additional gadgets, I am still able to easily prepare meals for my family of five.
3. I refrain from excessive clothing purchases and focus on creating versatile combinations from my existing wardrobe. I limit myself to a few pairs of well-fitting jeans and utilize accessories creatively. I also document successful outfits for future reference.
4. I avoid scatter rugs in the kitchen as they complicate cleaning. Minimalism leads me to choose low-maintenance decor pieces that simplify my life.
5. In the bathroom, I keep it minimal with only one bottle each of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I store extra supplies elsewhere, enhancing cleanliness and aesthetics.
6. When it comes to kids’ toys, I prioritize simplicity due to frequent relocations. Besides birthday or Christmas gifts, I limit the number of toys my children have, opting for ones they can enjoy together. This approach teaches them gratitude and the value of money.
7. I avoid unnecessary furniture pieces, such as centre and side tables, as they attract clutter. Instead, I gather guests around the dining table for coffee and snacks, promoting better conversations.
8. Minimalism influences my approach to decorative pieces. While I enjoy decorating, I refrain from accumulating too many items. By using trays to display selected pieces, I reduce visual clutter and prioritize functionality, such as incorporating useful items like candles, diffusers, and even Alexa.
9. When it comes to bags and shoes, I choose to make the ones I already own work for me. With a few versatile bags and a limited shoe collection, I avoid frequently transferring belongings and embrace minimalism.
10. While supporting creativity, I limit the quantity of kids’ craft supplies to what can fit in a small basket. I encourage them to utilize cardboard, such as Amazon boxes, for coloring and art projects, maximizing resourcefulness.
Remember, being a minimalist is not about depriving oneself or living in austerity. It’s about finding joy in simplicity and being mindful of our consumption choices. By refraining from purchasing unnecessary and superfluous items, we create space for what truly brings value to our lives: experiences, relationships, personal growth, and a sense of freedom. So, before adding something new to your shopping cart, take a moment to reflect on whether it aligns with your minimalist goals and values. Live intentionally, and let go of what no longer serves you. Embrace the beauty of a clutter-free, purposeful existence.
